Beautiful Coastal Gifts and Home Decor Designed by Some Gull in Cornwall

I’m KayCee (aka Karen).  I’m the ‘Some Gull’ of Gullz R Loud.  I live and work in the village of Gulval, near Penzance.  The ideas for my designs come from the stunning Cornish land and seascapes around me.

My life as an artist/designer began as a hobby; I started glass painting in the evenings and at weekends  to relax and escape from a very stressful time in the workplace. After exhausting the friends I could gift my glass art and paintings to, I began selling my creations to friends of friends, and at local craft fairs.

In 2018, I  grasped the opportunity to realise my dream; of turning my part time hobby craft into a full time creative business adventure.

So I took the voluntary redundancy package on offer and quickly waved goodbye to my 20 year professional career in  carbon and environmental sustainability management.

During early 2019,  I  attended several  EU-funded Photoshop  and digital fabric design courses and,  armed with my newly  found knowledge and skills, I turned my original acrylic paintings  into an expanded range of digital designs.

Modern digital printing  technology meant  I was now able to create a range of beautiful, yet practical, homewares, textiles and gifts; Gullz R Loud was born.

Gulls are like Marmite; people either love or hate them, and almost everyone has (or knows someone who has had) a ‘Gull Experience’.

My naughty gulls and their friends were created after I was  gull mugged in St Ives. As a local, I should have known better than to walk along the harbourside  with an irresistible double scoop Cornish ice cream cornet in my hand!

My Gullz R Loud range of cheeky seagulls, crabs and puffins are  starting to get everywhere; from gift wrap and cards to tea towels, aprons, cushions, lampshades, fridge magnets and oven gloves. After many years of market trading, I opened my own shop in St. Ives in Summer 2020. My Gullz R Loud shop not only sell my own designs and products, I also stock beautiful panoramic photographic canvases by Oliver Hawker, plus a wide range of other independent traders including silver jewellery by Julie Duggan Designs, T Shirts and hoodies by Bon Clothing, Artisan Chocolate by Langleys Rocky Road, and many more.

I’m passionate about keeping things local; everything I sell in produced in the UK, and as much as possible is made in Cornwall (either by myself or with the help of local printers and makers).  I’ve grown my little business by continually reinvesting in stock and new equipment, and the recent purchase of specialised printers and heat presses means I can now make more in Cornwall, increase the product lines, and will even be able to  offer personalisation on some products.

In my spare time I  love to walk the cliff paths or go down to the beach, either to just stare  out to sea, or indulge in my slightly weird hobby; beach combing and hunting for sea glass treasures.
